History · Billings Bridge area
Who was Braddish Billings, and why is it called Billings Bridge?
Short answer
The bridge and neighbourhood are named for Braddish Billings, who arrived from Brockville in 1812 and cut out a farm on the Rideau River. In 1823 he built a sawmill on a creek near today's Bank Street, which is still called Sawmill Creek.
